Glasgow loves Christmas!

The vibrant city really lights up over the Christmas months with happy shoppers, fabulous carol services and of course plenty of visits from the man in red. If you are wondering where to go for your Christmas break, make Glasgow a priority. Here are our must-do’s over the festive season:

Christmas Market

George Square and St Enoch Square will literally come alive in the run-up to Christmas with the return of the fantastic Christmas Markets. Each market has 50+ traders serving up local and international fare, festive drinks and some of the most unique and special Christmas crafts we’ve ever seen. Both markets have a distinct German Market feel with Germanic decorations and beers to warm you up while you browse. There are a few other independent markets running around the city too, just in case you don’t find what you are looking for.

Carol Service

If you would prefer to celebrate Christmas in a more traditional way and you’re lucky enough to be in the city on 23rd December, take a trip to The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall for a fantastic carol service. The choir and orchestra sing a mixture of old and new carols, have a special take on the 12 days of Christmas and pull a whopping 1600 crackers at once! There is also a charity carol service in the same location on 6th December to raise money for the CLIC Sargent Cancer Care for the Young and most of our local churches will have carol services too.

Dinner

If you’d choose fine dining over headbanging, you can indulge in a grand dining experience in Browns Brasserie & Bar. They are offering a sumptuous five-course menu accompanied by a classic Bellini cocktail to make sure your last meal of 2018 is a good one. The theme of the night is Great Gatsby-inspired 1920’s glamour and the venue will be decorated in the decadent style of the era. The musical treat will be a live pianist and jazz band to really set the scene. It promises to be a truly exceptional night.

NYE

In Scotland, New Years is an even bigger celebration than Christmas! Hogmanay is the Scots word for the last day of the year and ties in with the huge New Years Countdown celebrations we have each year. There are so many fantastic parties to choose from in theatres, pubs and street parties and each has its own unique take on the evening. If you fancy a family celebration, there are amazing pyrotechnics and plenty of traditional Scottish celebrations in the run-up to and on the evening itself. Whatever the Christmas season in Glasgow brings for you, make sure you choose the best possible accommodation.
